Child Safety Policy
Last updated October 2026
Draft — this policy is under review and will be finalised before classes begin.
[BrandName] is committed to the safety and wellbeing of every child and young person in our classes. We have zero tolerance for child abuse. This policy reflects the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
Our commitment
- The safety and wellbeing of children comes first in every decision we make.
- We value diversity and are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with disability.
- We listen to children and families and take every concern seriously.
Who we engage
- Every tutor and staff member must hold a valid Working with Children Check, which we verify and record before they start and monitor for expiry.
- We interview applicants, check qualifications and references, and run a trial lesson before anyone teaches a class.
- All tutors agree to our Code of Conduct and complete child safety induction.
How our online classes keep students safe
- No private messaging between tutors and students. All communication goes through the class or through our staff and parents.
- Tutors see only students' first names and class information — never contact details.
- Class links are visible only to enrolled students. Classes use waiting rooms and passcodes, and private chat is disabled.
- Sessions are recorded with consent and recordings are accessible only to the class and authorised staff.
- Tutors must not contact students outside scheduled classes or on personal social media.
Code of conduct (summary)
Tutors must treat every student with respect, keep interactions professional and within class, never request personal information or images, and report any concern immediately.
Raising a concern
- Anyone — a student, parent, tutor or member of the public — can raise a concern by emailing hello@example.com. Concerns are handled confidentially by our management team.
- If a child is in immediate danger, call 000.
- We report concerns to Victoria Police and Child Protection where required, and meet our obligations under Victorian law, including the Reportable Conduct Scheme where it applies.
- We record every concern and the action taken in our incidents and complaints register.
Review
We review this policy at least every year, and after any significant incident, and seek feedback from families and tutors.
